Huawei, one of China’s leading International Networking and Telecommunications Services and Equipment Company, in conjunction with Open Networking Foundation (ONF) and Open Network Operating System, announced their collaboration to build an open and innovative SDN industry network that empowers operators to accelerate SDN commercialization.

Based on the Management of the top equipment suppliers and operators, ONOS is the industry’s first open source SDN control platform that centers on service requirements and operators’ networks and considers operators’ demands including security, reliability, scalability and high performance.

Software-defined networking (SDN) has turned out to be vital for operators network based on the need for ultra-fast connections with the aim of reducing cost.

The SDN solutions from Huawei will upkeep the ONOS platform and, through a handy association with ONF, ONOS and Open Platform for NFV, Huawei will align itself to establish an open, cohesive and programmable SDN network designed to satisfy operators’ needs.

Speaking on the development, Strategy Consultant of ONOS, Mr. Ram Appalaraju said that Huawei has made significant contributions to the organizations development.

Mr. Ram Appalaraju noted, “ONOS will continuously respond to operator requirement, partner with Huawei to optimize the open source control platform, and promote the openness and healthy development of the industry ecosystem by placing benefits to operators at the forefront.”

On his part, the Executive Director, ONF, Mr. Dan Pitt said that network operators are already hastening to benefit from SDN and are progressively looking to open-source software as an actual drive for prompt distribution of SDN’s key components.

“ONF is thrilled when our members embrace SDN and open-source technologies to meet critical operator needs and we applaud today’s announcements, which helps to build a healthy SDN industry ecosystem,” Mr. Dan Pitt added.

Also, Mr. Zha Jun, President, Fixed Network Product Line, Huawei and ONOS Board Member, said that SDN openness and innovation will provide a platform and motivation for industry development, requiring the combined efforts of several stakeholders.

Mr. Jun added that Huawei will contribute, to the operator requirements to the ONOS core architecture, noting that it will develop northbound and southbound interfaces, and keenly offer open source code to back-up ONOS with adjusting to various SDN set-ups and establish an open and strong industry ecosystem.
