Dropbox is one of those apps that you simply must have.

What is it?

It’s a cloud-based automatic service that allows for syncing of files. Your files will be accessible on the go via mobile and computer devices.

Features

Dropbox is available for download in its official website, www.dropbox.com. It is also available in Android, iTunes and BlackBerry app stores.

Once downloaded and installed, the user signs up for Dropbox account and the program creates a folder called Dropbox, as well as a shortcut in the system tray for windows and on the top menu bar for Mac.

To use the service, you only store files in the Dropbox folder. Then Dropbox takes care of everything else.

It must be made clear that Dropbox is a file syncing service rather than a backup service. Consequently, deleting or removing contents from your Dropbox folder will make these contents unavailable in all other devices where your Dropbox is installed as well as in your online account.

Internet connection is mandatory for syncing to take place. Once synced your files will be available to you wherever you are.

Pricing

Dropbox is both a Freemium and premium service. The free personal account starts out with 2GB of available space. More space is earned through referrals. For every user you refer, you get an extra 500MB up to 16GB. Dropbox Pro, which offers the premium service, however, is a paid personal plan. It offers 100GB space for $9.99 a month or $99 annually. More space is available with more payment, for instance, $19.99 a month will get you 200GB of storage and for $49.99 you get 500GB.

Dropbox Business accounts are charged based on the number of users. The minimum charge is $15 per month per user with a minimum of 5 users. They, however, have more features than personal accounts.

Files stored on the desktop or mobile client have no limitations of size, but uploading through the website is limited to 10GB.

Sharing and collaboration

Through the website, one can access the files, download, edit and then upload them once you finish working on them. The website additionally allows you to easily share the files to a website or to friends. Through collaboration, multiple users can download, edit the files and upload them once they are done.

You can access older copies of your files as far back as 30 days. For people who want histories way back beyond 30 days, a Pro account with a Packrat feature can be acquired at $3.99 a month.

Pros

  • Highly efficient syncing of files
  • Easy installation
  • Highly efficient servers
  • Shows history of actions
  • Allows access of files of earlier versions and those that have been deleted

Dropbox is no doubt a-must-have superb file-syncing app. Having it will give you the power to work on your files on the go; you can additionally let other people effectively work on your files regardless of their location.
