Clean Energy Startup? Apply for EEP Africa Trust Fund (up to €1M)

Do you run a clean energy company, a startup, or a social enterprise in Southern or Eastern Africa? Apply right away.

EEP Africa is inviting companies, start-ups, and social enterprises in Southern and Eastern Africa to send in applications for innovative early-stage clean energy projects in active development.

The Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund (EEP Africa) offers early-stage grant funding for locally driven innovative clean energy projects, technologies, and business and delivery models in Southern and East Africa.

Since 2010, EEP Africa has invested more than EUR 60 million in over 270 innovative projects, resulting in the creation of over 11,600 jobs, the improvement of energy access for over 5 million people, and the avoidance of 1.8 million tonnes of CO2e.

Funding

Applicants may apply for grants and refundable grants ranging in value from EUR 200,000 to $1,000,000.

Contingent upon the project stage and company maturity, the minimum needed co-financing is 30-50% of the total project budget.

Eligibility for application
  • Applications are welcome from private companies, start-ups, and social enterprises from any country with early-stage projects in one or more of the EEP Africa target countries
  • All applicants must have been registered as legal entities for at least six (6) months prior to the opening date of the EoI.
  • Applicants can be from any country, but they must demonstrate local engagement.
  • Women entrepreneurs and locally-led organizations are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application

The application procedure is divided into two stages: an Expression of Interest (EOI) and a detailed Full Proposal.

Following the submission of the EOI, EEP Africa will hold a virtual boot camp followed by pitching sessions for those applicants who are shortlisted. Applicants are shortlisted for the full proposal stage based on their pitch interviews.

All proposals must be sent online via the EEP Africa application platform. Proposals sent via email are not going to be taken into account.
