Applications are open to the UNDP x FSD Africa Innovation Challenge. This is a national call to innovators, startups, insurers, and changemakers to co-create insurance solutions that protect and empower Nigeria’s underserved populations.
Benefits of Participation
- Three winners will receive grant funding of ₦30 million each.
- Shortlisted teams gain access to a bootcamp focused on product refinement, business modelling, regulatory readiness, and market rollout.
- Technical assistance to support licensing, testing, and commercial launch.
Thematic Areas
Applicants should aim to develop insurance models that serve underserved populations and support one or more of the following:
- Climate Risk Insurance for smallholder farmers and agricultural livelihoods
- Health Insurance or rural and peri-urban populations
- MSME Resilience Insurance tailored for micro, small and medium enterprises
- Gender-Responsive Solutions that include women, persons with disabilities and other marginalised groups
Eligibility for Participation
- Registered organisations in Nigeria (insurtechs, fintechs, insurers, community-based organisations) with valid CAC registration and tax compliance.
- Ventures serving low-income, rural or peri-urban populations, women, smallholder farmers or MSMEs.
- Ventures that offer a commercially viable product or service, with a clear path to market and inclusion of gender-responsive features.
- Applicants must be ready to engage with insurers, regulators or other industry stakeholders for practical implementation.
