Savant Build Programme for African Founders Closes Soon

Applications are now open for the Laptop LLM Challenge 2026, an initiative by the Africa Deep Tech Challenge that invites innovators, researchers, developers, and AI builders to create large language model (LLM) solutions that run efficiently on consumer-grade laptops.

The challenge seeks practical approaches to developing and deploying AI models that can operate with limited computing resources while addressing real-world problems across Africa.

By encouraging locally relevant AI innovation, the programme aims to support the development of accessible language technologies that can function without dependence on expensive infrastructure.

Benefits of Participation

  • Cash Prize Opportunities: Selected teams will compete for a share of the competition’s prize pool, with top-performing solutions receiving financial rewards in recognition of their innovation and technical achievement.
  • Global Recognition: Participants will gain visibility among AI researchers, technology leaders, investors, and industry stakeholders interested in the future of efficient artificial intelligence systems.
  • Opportunity to Showcase Technical Expertise: The challenge provides a platform for participants to demonstrate their ability to build resource-efficient language models that deliver meaningful performance on everyday computing devices.
  • Contribution to African AI Development: Participants will have the opportunity to develop solutions that address local challenges while contributing to the growth of Africa’s artificial intelligence ecosystem.
  • Community and Ecosystem Engagement: The programme brings together researchers, developers, startups, students, and AI practitioners, creating opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and future partnerships.
