In my last post on Tecno Phantom 6 launch, I x-rayed the major specifications and key features. Although it wasn’t a full review and I made it known that Techsmart can only do a full review if we get the device. We already have the Tecno Phantom 6, so let me share what I have discovered about the smartphone

About Tecno Phantom 6

The phantom 6 is 5.5 inch AMOLED screen that runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, along with TECNO`S custom UI. It has an incredible design and slim body; equipped with a 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and 2700mAh battery.

Tecno phantom 6 Review

The Tecno Phantom 6 was launched in the capital city of UAE, Dubai last month, although I would have preferred a Nigerian Launch.

Apparently, the Chinese smartphone maker decided to take it to a whole new level since there is high demand for quality and intense competition in the mobile market. Again, I guess their aim of using Dubai is to launch their market penetration strategy.

However, the price of Tecno Phantom currently stands at N88, 000

Camera

There are a lot to talk about Tecno when it comes to the camera. Some of the photos I took with the Phantom 6 made me recall the Camon C9. This is much better than the Camon series and its processor Phantom 5. For selfies lovers, Phantom 6 will interest you.

Tecno phantom 6 Review

Probably, it’s because this time Tecno had partnered with decided to make it big for its fans by signing a major deal with SONY, hence, the device comes with world class camera sensors manufactured by SONY.

Tecno Phantom 6 comes with 13MP and the other with 5MP resolution, making a total of 18MP. The 13MP camera detects the view, while the 5MP camera provides more depth and clearness to the picture. However, the camera set up applies to the likes of iPhone 7 Plus and Huawei P9

Display and Design

Tecno Phantom 6 has a five layer full metal body which proves to be more durable with a slight curve around the back to enable more grips.

The Tecno Phantom 6 is very different from its predecessor having an incredible design and slim body measuring about 6.15mm. Apart, the body is made up of a Nano-molding seamless metal body.

Tecno phantom 6 Review

The Phantom model has an aluminum-magnesium alloy frame with a corning gorilla glass v3.0 which helps protect the screen from scratch and cracks; however, each of the layers adding a unique element to the overall appearance of the device.

Security

The Phantom 6 provides a biometric iris scanner which scans your eyes before unlocking the device. Smartphone security is vital because our personal information will be at risk if hacked. However, the Phantom 6 Plus offers more protection with both the iris scanner and a fingerprint reader at the back.

USB Type C.

Tecno phantom 6 Review

Tecno Phantom 6 wasn’t left out in the new USB Type C technology used in many phones and laptop manufactured today. USB Type-C port measures 8.4mm by 2.6mm and also encourage reverse charging. USB Type-C port and connector is the latest connection which was finalized around the end of August 2014. The significance of the new USB Type-C technology is that it is faster in transfer rate and charging rate than its predecessor.

Processor

Tecno phantom 6 ReviewThe Phantom 6 comes with powerful and speedy processors that guarantee smooth multitasking operations and makes it very quick. Hence, gaming and surfing the internet at the same is not going to be an issue.
Meanwhile, Tecno Phantom 6 is powered by the latest version of the Mediatek chipset, built on a 2.0GHz Helio X20 Octa-core MTK processor

Battery Capacity

The Tecno Phantom has a non-detachable battery design with 2700 mAh battery. The battery should take you through at least 7 hours of heavy usage. The battery capacity found on Phantom 6 is a bit disappointing as it is a downgrade to Tecno Phantom 5 battery or even compared to Phantom 6 plus which has about 4050mAh

Tecno Phantom 6 Specs Highlight.

  • Network: 2G, 3G, 4G LTE.
  • Design: Nano-Molded metal body.
  • Dimension: 151.5 x 75.5 x 6.15mm.
  • Rear Camera: 13MP AF & 5MP Sony IMX Dual Back Camera with autofocus and dual LED flash.
  • Front-Facing Camera: 8MP with soft flash.
  • Colors: Champagne Gold.
  • USB: Type-C Light Speed Charge.
  • Display: 6.0-inch Amoled with 1920 x 1080 Pixels screen resolution and 420 PPI.
  • Sim Count & Type: Dual Micro Sim.
  • Operating System: Tecno HiOS based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
  • Processor: 2.0GHz Helio X20 Octa-core Mediatek Chipset.
  • GPU: Mali-T860 GPU.
  • Memory: 3GB RAM, 32GB Internal memory and Sd card slot up to 128GB.

Pros

  • Good camera and design
  • High speed performance
  • Premium features
  • High-quality dual camera
  • Has HiOs, known to provide better customization, with plenty of themes and wallpapers.

Cons

  • Too expensive
  • Not scratch resistant
  • Not water resistant
  • Poor battery capacity

My Verdict

The Tecno phantom is a good smartphone, however, too expensive compared to the like of Infinix Note 3 that is more battery efficient and has fingerprint. Techno should focus on their own style and stop emulating iPhone. Let Tecno Phantom 6 be Tecno  Phantom 6, and not the “Plus” thing.
