Scrapays Technologies wins ₦12 Mn at DAAYTA 2021

Scrapays Technologies a recycling-production company emerged the winner of the 12 million naira Deji Alli ARM Young Talent Award (DAAYTA) 2021.

The pitch event leading to the announcement held virtually on Friday, April 9, 2021, due to the current coronavirus realities.

Recall that applications for the DAAYTA 2021 was announced in November 2020 which received over 500 applications from start-up entrepreneurs and following a rigorous review process, the organizers have selected the top 6 applications that met all the requirements.

The startups included EduPoint Limited, Natal Cares, Lend An Arm (HealthBotics), Scrapays Technologies Ltd, SALUBATA and Utiva.

Scrapays Technologies Ltd founded by Tope Sulaiman Scrapays connects waste producers (individuals and enterprise) with independent recyclable material collection businesses so they can dispose of their sorted waste efficiently with a return.

According to its website, the community is powered by hosts who have access to spaces, they provide collection outlets allowing for wide decentralization of collectors.

Basically, the startup’s solution offers less than a day disposal cycle of recyclable materials through independent business using USSD and Mobile Apps for waste producers.

So far Scrapays which is a Founder Institute portfolio company has generated $75,000 in revenue and $65,000 in grants.

The first runner-up position goes to Natal Cares, while SALUBATA emerged as the second runner-up.

The Deji Alli Young Talent Award (DAAYTA) program is a youth awards initiative founded in 2015 by ARM in honor of its founding CEO Deji Alli.

The goal of the award is to provide support to young entrepreneurs with smart and innovative ideas that have a positive impact on people’s lives and the communities that surround them.

DAAYTA 2021 focused on identifying start-ups with a minimum viable product (MVP) and at least one customer.
