The team behind NITEC lead by Ehi Braimah, MD/CEO, Neo Media & Marketing recently met with technology bloggers, at Adna Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

Cross Section of Bloggers & Tech Journalists 3

The purpose of the meeting was to brief these primary stakeholders on the goals of the Nigeria Int’l Technology Exhibition & Conference (NITEC) scheduled to hold on June 23 & 24, 2016 at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event will run from 9.00am and 5.00pm daily, while there will be cocktails and networking forum on the second day.

The theme of NITEC 2016 is the Role of Disruptive Technologies in Catapulting the African Continent’s GDP, and is aimed at creating a platform for showcasing the best of tech innovation and disruptive technologies starting with Nigeria and the rest of Africa.

The slogan of NITEC is Trending Technologies. Technologies used some years ago are now either obsolete or have been re-invented. We used to have Nokia 3310, Motorola, Ericsson, etc. As phone years back, but today what is trending are smartphones more powerful than the first rocket that took man to the moon. All these are as a result of constant.

The event provides an opportunity to potential sponsors, partners and exhibitors to exhibit/showcase their products during the two-day conference and exhibition.

Our key focus is how we can use technology to grow GDP in the African continent.  For example, Nigeria’s movie industry (Nollywood) and the music industry have contributed significantly to the GDP of Nigeria’s economy. NITEC therefore, is providing a platform where technology can be used to grow the economy of Nigeria and Africa in general because the ‘future belongs to innovators’. As the name implies, our vision is to make NITEC a big tech event where people from across the globe would attend.

The United States of America (USA) has pioneered and revolutionized technology all over the world through Silicon Valley. Today, social media platforms have become popular for engagement and conversation purposes. How did Facebook, Google, Twitter, etc begin?  By engaging with the relevant stakeholders through NITEC, we want to revolutionize the technology and digital space in Nigeria for the overall benefit of Nigerians.

As a starting point, we have engaged online influencers and bloggers who are stakeholders of NITEC to tell the NITEC story…create awareness and promote NITEC on their blog posts.

We are also collaborating with key stakeholders such as Nigeria Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), etc, to promote smart ICT solutions. NIRA for instance, promotes Nigerian identity online with .ng which encourages Nigerians with websites bearing .ng domain name.

Another key outcome of NITEC is the collaboration with the public and private sectors which are the two key components that drive the economy of any nation with a view to deepening technological advancements in Nigeria.

NITEC will also engage the younger audience especially students in higher institutions through ACADA magazine and the National Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS). The students will attend and participate at the conference especially where there are inventions/innovations to show case. There will be games for participants and prizes would be won.
