The Nigerian Senate in its plenary session on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, has confirmed the appointment of Professor Adeolu Akande as chairman, and Uche Onwude as a member of the commission’s governing board.
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan made the confirmation of the new board after going through the report of the committee on communications led by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Senate had screened the two NCC candidates in accordance with the provision of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA), 2003.
Following the screening, the Senate expressed its satisfaction at the level of competence of the two nominees from the President to strengthen the commission’s board.
During the screening by the senate, both Akande and Callistus demonstrated a remarkable understanding of the telecoms and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry.
Akande, however, stated his commitment to work alongside the NCC management through the provision of the right leadership that will enable the telecoms and ICT industry to continue on the path of growth in accordance with the digital economy.
Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, Chairman of the Committee stated that nomination is in accordance with the provisions of Section 8 (1) of the NCA, 2003.
