South African e-health startup Mia Healthcare Technologies has raised ZAR15 million, about US$920,000, from the Vumela Fund to scale its affordable dental and orthodontic care model across Southern Africa.
Founded in 2021 by Dr. Zane Stennings and Dr. Karishma Soni, the company runs a mix of mobile and fixed dental practices and also produces locally made clear aligners at lower prices than many imported options.
Mia says the new capital will help it widen its footprint in South Africa, expand manufacturing capacity, and keep pushing down the cost and distance barriers that keep many people from getting dental care.
The startup already serves patients through a growing network of practices, and its model links care delivery to product manufacturing, giving it greater control over pricing and access.
Mia is tackling one of the quieter gaps in African healthcare, where dental services often sit far behind more visible medical needs in both funding and public attention.
Models like this tend to work best when they solve three problems at once: access, affordability, and trust. Mia Healthcare appears to be building around all three, which gives the business a path rather than a clinic-only play.
