7 Tracks, 1 Future: AfriLabs Annual Gathering 2025 Sets the Stage for Africa’s Innovation Renaissance

The AfriLabs Annual gathering is, the largest pan-African summit of tech innovation hubs and stakeholders, from across Africa and the diaspora, scheduled to take place from the 28th – 30th October 2019, at the African Union Headquarters, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Annual Gathering 2019, will feature a panel discussion, focused on the topic, “A Collaborative Approach; The Role of the Media in Promoting the African Innovation Ecosystem”.

The panel discussion, will provide, among several other discussion points, useful insight, into the current state of the media and its roles in the ecosystem, as well as, the drawbacks, impact and way forward, to enhance the media’s role, in the ecosystem.

Below are the carefully selected Panelists:

Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata Jnr (CFA)

CFA is, the Co-Founder of GoDo Hub, Lagos. He currently serves as a Director, at the Nigeria Internet Registration Association, (NiRA) and Innovation Support Network, (ISN), Hubs – a network of 75 founding hubs in Nigeria.

CFA is, a multi-award-winning media professional, visible in some of Africa’s most respected online and offline media outfits, developing weekly content, geared towards helping Africans to ‘connect the dots’, using digital technology. These include: Tech Trends on Channels Television, ICT Clinic in the Punch Newspapers and CFAmedia.ng.

CFA utilizes platforms, such as Founder Institute Lagos, CFA’s Startups Hangout and many more, to power a nexus, on the integration and relationship of digital technology, to human existence, especially, in Africa, with unprecedented consistency and has authored two books.

Joesphine Mwangi

She is the Head of Communications, Marketing and Stakeholder Management at Nailab, Kenya.

Josephine has helped design, package and share stories of different start-ups, which has helped shape the perception of the start-up ecosystem.

Josephine has also contributed to, strategically, positioning Nailab to various audiences, through various channels and she has guided the communication design and packaging of accelerator’s programs, such as African Netpreneur Prize Initiative.

Stan Getui

Stan is, an Investment Principal, at Luminate Group, Nairobi Kenya.

Luminate, as a support, to the vibrant media ecosystem in Kenya, is investing $1M to launch Baraza Media Lab – a dedicated hub for journalists, publishers and media entrepreneurs.

Stan has served on the Advisory Board of the Department of Finance, at the Deakin Business School and that of African Leadership, Learning and Advocacy Group and a consultant with Dalberg Advisors. He worked with MFS Investment Management and Mercer Investments.

Eva Sow Ebion

She is the Co-Founder of Kinaya Ventures. She helps in creating valuable partnerships, between large corporates and start-ups and catalyzing open innovation, corporate innovation, seed funding and angel investing in Francophone Africa.

Eva has brought support to, about 20 tech start-ups, over her 5 years, at the start-up incubator CTIC Dakar, where she was, in charge of Business Development and coached, more than, 1500 project leaders, during BootCamps and training sessions.

Tefo Mohapi

He is the Founder and CEO of iAfrikan, a pan-African technology company that produces content, podcasts, events, publications and other services, about Africa’s burgeoning innovation and technology sector and how it affects culture, business and day-to-day life, on the continent.

He partners with the University of the Witwatersrand, on the Xenowatch.org project, in partnership with UNHCR, through iAfrikan.

Bankole Oluwafemi

He is the Co-Founder of Big Cabal Media, publishers of TechCabal, Zikoko and makers of Ebolafacts.com.

His writings and quotes, about technology in Africa are, regularly, featured in prestigious publications, such as Quartz, Fortune, TED.com and more.

At the height of the Nigerian Ebola scare in 2014, Bankole’s Big Cabal Media, created Ebolafacts, an infographic website that educated people, about the disease and its prevention, in a, visually, compelling, friendly and easy to understand way.

The website received more than 1.5 million hits, in less than two weeks and was translated into Nigerian local languages and French by volunteers.
