The Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) in collaboration with Interconnect Clearinghouse Nigeria Limited (ICN) recently convened Network operators in Port Harcourt for a forum focused on the latest peering and interconnectivity trends.

The objectives of this event tagged ‘Connectivity Engagement Forum’ was to sensitize and promote the integration/ connectivity of these networks and educational institutions in the region to the IXPN & ICN fabrics, as well as create awareness of new technologies and innovations in the peering and interconnectivity ecosystem.

Speaking at the forum, IXPN CEO, Muhammed Rudman, highlighted the organization’s role in domesticating 50% of internet traffic for connected Internet Service Providers (ISPs). He emphasized the economic benefits of reduced capital flight and encouraged the establishment of regional IXPs in Nigeria to further localize traffic and enhance efficiency.

Ngadi also highlighted the data centre’s collaboration with the West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC) to optimize internet distribution in the Port Harcourt region.

The 1-day event attracted more than 41 participants in attendance made up of MDs/ CEOs, Chief Technology Officers (CTOs), Business Managers, Network operators, telecommunications policymakers & stakeholders, data centre managers, as well as educational institutions.

About IXPN

Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) provides a platform where Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Network/ Content Providers, and other IP-centric organisations interconnect directly on our fabrics, to ensure that local Internet traffic remains local, rather than having to transcend boundaries of different countries before reaching its recipients. The advantages of this direct interconnection are too numerous to mention which include cost reduction, low latency, increased internet bandwidth, network performance etc.

IXPN is currently the Regional Internet Exchange Point (RIXP) for West Africa with over one hundred and twenty (120) active networks on its network – Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, Netflix, ISPs, and all Nigerian Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) among others.

About ICN

ICN is a highly reputable organization, known for its reliable services. We are a neutral third party that is not in competition with the operators or subscribers. We are focused on the primary issues of adequate interconnect capacity between operators and service providers, prompt billing, settlement of interconnect usage charges, and provision of cost-effective co-location space.
