The 2015 Nigerian general elections have been adjudged as credible by a large number of observers that monitored the elections, both locally and internationally, as well as the generality of the Nigerian people. The general elections were monitored by these observers and the Nigerian people either physically or virtually, but the silent hero in all of this is the ubiquitous companion called mobile.
Yes, that device that has displaced dogs as man’s best friend, these devices made it possible for the people to receive first-hand information on the conduct of the general elections from multiple locations remote to their own locality in real time and that is a tip of the iceberg of what is possible with mobile.
Although, I started with the general elections and how mobile phones were used in the monitoring process, the success that the mobile device has brought to changing the way we communicate does not start and end there. Time will fail me to mention the use and importance of mobile phones in commerce, health care, financial services, bridging the knowledge gap and a lots more.
