A lot has centered around the coronavirus pandemic, as it should.

As much as we hope things will normalize, we certainly are not going back to life, as it used to be.

Adaptations have been made and a lot of changes have been effected.

Where, then, does this leave you as a worker; as someone, who is part of a team working towards a common goal?

How can you stay relevant, become and remain an integral member of the team?

Ways to Work Effectively

Below are some ways you can work effectively:

Make a List

Making a list would help you stay on track at work and prevent you from being overwhelmed.

While you create your list, limit how many items you have on it, so as to ensure you are paying enough attention to each task and carrying them out properly.

Sort out the bigger and more crucial tasks first, before the smaller ones. This would, also, ensure you are not stressing yourself out.

Avoid Procrastination

Track where you waste time and try to get your tasks done, as soon as possible.

Procrastination is, possibly, one of the factors that prevent working effectively and staying relevant at work.

Look at your patterns to determine how you spend time and where you waste it.

Figuring out where you waste time helps you fix in more important tasks.

Delegation

A lot of people like to believe that they are multitaskers, but for neuroscientist, Earl Miller, “people cannot multitask very well and when people say they can, they are deluding themselves. The brain is very good at deluding itself.”

The point is that, multitasking may not ensure effectiveness and properly paying attention to details, so, it is always better to focus on one task at a time. Once you are done, you can move on to another.

Staying Relevant at Work

You can stay relevant at work by doing these below:

Upskilling

This is the process of continuous learning so that, you can minimize skill gaps and master new abilities.

This is consistently improving what you know, regardless of wanting to gain the attention of top companies and recruiters.

In essence, it is a way of staying on top of your game.

Over time, professional development was, primarily, done by doctors, lawyers and other professionals who needed to stay current, because lives depended on it, but this is not the case anymore.

Today, everyone has to keep learning if they want to stay relevant. Continuous learning has, also, become a trend that many businesses have embraced, due to the many benefits.

Networking and Social Media

The good news is that you can take courses in the art of networking if you do not know how to begin.

The key to successful networking is to be able to tap into sources of expertise, recommendations and advice from those with different, or more experienced than you have.

It is, however, important to note that networking is about give and take. It should not always be just about your needs.

You could, for instance, suggest working on a project together that will ensure a mutual gain.

This will help solidify the relationship and ensure benefits presently, or in the future.

Learning New Technologies

This is closely associated with Upskilling and it is one of the most important things you can do to stay relevant.

We live in a very tech-savvy world and if you cannot keep up, you risk falling behind the competition.

You, therefore, research about the technologies used in your industry and take steps to familiarize yourself, with them to learn how they work.

As ‘cliche’ as the points above may sound, those are actually ways you can stay relevant and work effectively. There is simply no going around them.
