Emotions are described as, feelings, through distinctive thoughts, psychological and biological states, and the range of propensity to act.

Everyone has emotions and need to manage and deal these, as they come up, by and by.

Managing emotions helps in achieving peaceful co-existence with other people.

Below are 4 ways, in which one can master and manage emotions:

Identifying And Labeling Feelings

The first step to mastering emotional skills, is labeling and identifying the exact emotions felt.

Emotions, such as, anger, love, fear, surprise, shame, disgust, etc., proves to be mother sources of feelings, for other emotions.

The first step to gain mastery, of these emotions, is to understand the exact emotion.

Are you angry? Are you happy, or, are you sad? Once you can place a name, or, give titles to the emotions and that is a step, to gaining control of that emotion.

Expressing Feelings

Emotions are, naturally, intertwined, with the makeup of humans.

We unconsciously and spontaneously respond, to situations around us, with our emotions.

If emotions are suppressed, it could bring about negative results and if they are incorrectly expressed, negative results, could be in view.

The best way to express your feeling is to have an average control, over every feeling.

Understanding that, emotions are multi-faceted phenomenon, consisting of behavioural actions, such as, approaching expressive reactions, such as smiling, or, laughing, psychological reactions, such as, heart pounding, subjective reaction, such as, feeling amused.

If these emotional expression processes are noted, it will be easier, to understand how the process affects us and how we can control them.

Identifying and expressing feelings, are equivalent, to managing those feelings. Managing feelings, in positive ways, means that, those feelings, are correctly identified and expressed.

Anger can lead to a harsh confrontation, between two people and also lead, to a strong determination, to stay away from a toxic person.

Controlling Impulses

If the first and basic impulses can be managed, emotions are expressed appropriately and are transformed into positive actions.

Controlling impulses, requires training and two basic stages that aid this process.

The first stage of control impulse, is setting up conditions that, will delay performance of the action, immediately.

This is simply strategically removing the source that will breed a particular impulse.

If dogs will make you fear, removing the dogs, will delay the performance of fear.

The second stage, is maintaining impulse control. It involves not giving in, to desire, after the impulse is interrupted.

Replacing dogs, with cats, for instance, is a way to maintain one’s response, to the fear of dogs.

In all these, reducing stress and anxiety, are basic ways of improving emotional mastery, the more it is exercised, the more it can be handle.

Are their other ways you feel emotional skills can get mastered? Feel free to share in the comment section.
