Uber has launched its intercity Bus service in Egypt becoming the first-ever country to roll out this service.
This is coming on the backdrop of connecting cities in the country with the Uber App.
In a bid to manage the ravaging effect of the Coronavirus pandemic, the ride-hailing company has laid off more than 3000 of its workforce and closed down 45 offices to save up to $1 billion in the company’s fixed cost.
However, Uber is exploring ways to remain committed to its technology in creating a range of products to serve the local needs of its market.
Ahmed Khalil, GM of Uber Egypt, said, “We are honoured to witness another global product launch from Egypt, especially following the last few tense months across the country and the world.
Egypt is an innovation hub and a fantastic environment for testing new products,”
Leveraging the technology provided by Uber, the intercity Bus service will provide a form of comfortable setting to transport users between the cities.
This continuous investment in the Egyptian market means that the ride-hailing company is committed to expanding its range of products to offer a convenient mode of transportation in the cities.
With the service executing 8 journeys per day and operating 7 days a week, Uber will commence the launch between Alexandria and Cairo while planning an expansion to other cities in months ahead.
Uber has also made pre-booking features available on the app for the comfort of its regular travellers.
Users are provided with several pick up and drop off locations on the app.
With the Coronavirus pandemic still ravaging, Uber is committed to following COVID-19 safety measures.
The ride-hailing company requires its drivers and riders to put on face masks on all trips.
Social distancing has also been catered for as the company reduced its maximum seating capacity as well as providing sanitizers in all its rides.
