One cannot say, for sure that, there is a work-life balance because, in the process of creating a work-life balance we leave our personal lives, family lives, and social lives, out of the picture, which means that, we are dedicated to work-life alone.

Dr. Ivan Misner, Founder, BNI, the world’s largest business networking organization, affirmed, “Forget about balance. It is an illusion. ‘Balance’ assumes that we spend an equal amount of time in all, or, most areas of our life. The problem with that is that almost no entrepreneur can actually achieve that. For me, it is about harmony, not balance… a life that is in harmony with your vision, of who you are and what you want to do.”

A balance work-life cannot fully be achieved, except one learns the art of multitasking, which might help in blending everything together.

With the use of technology, however, it is easy to work from home, but the real test comes, when that boss is expecting an email when you are about taking a night rest!!!

The advent of this method does not help in drawing a thick line between work life, family life, and social life.

Having a healthy work-life balance is essential, in order to boost productivity and also to keep one from burning out.

Getting too stressed up can be detrimental to the health and making one prone to heart failure and stroke, which can lead to death.

Below, are few tips, on how to maintain a healthy work-life balance:

Have personal time to refresh: Take time out, to do self-care. Make yourself happy, by surrounding yourself with friends who can help you ease your stress.

You can, also, go to the gym for a workout, or, go to the cinema, to see a movie of your choice. Pay enough attention to your emotional and physical needs. It is called the “me time”.

Learn to say no: It is not every event that you will attend. Not every task is meant for you.

If you have to take up all the activities, you will realize that you have no time left for yourself.

It is okay to say, ‘no’, to things that stress you out, especially, if there are other people, who can fit into the same role.

Set rules: Mark out boundaries for yourself. When you are at home, you leave out the work-life. No taking of the laptop to bed, or, no receiving phone calls in bed.

This is because, the fact that technology has made communication easy, does not mean that we should not have our privacy.

Create a shared calendar: Having a calendar that explains your schedule and making sure that your employees, children, and husband, or, wife, have access to it, gives them a clue of where and when they can approach you.

It gives them information about your everyday activities.

They know when you are in an important meeting when you can be talked to when you are having your “me time” and when you are stressed out.

Remember that, you are not a superman or superwoman, you cannot be at two or more places at a time. You need to give priorities to the things that you do.

Your ability to maintain these few tips will help you to regain your happiness and keep you stable, physically and mentally.

You can also get to know tips on using technology to achieve a better business and family life here.
