A while ago, I was with a friend who received a call from his brother who just got admission to a university in The Netherlands. The young man had just settled in and also got a two bedroom flat outside the university premises. Now, all these would not have been any of my concern, but I got more interested when he gave me more details about his brother’s reasons for that particular institution, which I believe is more of the norm today.
Let me start with the apartment, which is a two bedroom apartment that is a highly government-subsidised, hence, the monthly rent is a pittance. Now, that apartment comes with broadband Internet access and cable TV. All you need to do is to bring in your laptop or tablet and connect to commence using the free Internet. This, no doubt, will give the young man access to carry out research with ease in the comfort of his apartment (all things being equal – that is assuming he does not get distracted by the unbelievable freedom online).
