Arguably, there is no guarantee for anything in life. Smartphones, electronic and electrical appliances do not have guarantee. Don’t mind the makers of these devices. They often tell you – “This product has one year guarantee”. Most times it just works for them. Sometimes, it doesn’t.
But the beauty is that you are entitled to another product. Once you report back and let them know what happened to the product you bought from them. That is just the guarantee. No maker determines the lifespan of any device. I repeat no maker.
Two days ago was quite frustrating for me. I was in a conference when my iPhone abrubly went blank. I thought it was a joke. One hour, two hours, three hours, and six hours my iPhone was still blank.
Even while it was blank, it was getting notifications, calls and text messages. I couldn’t see anything let alone of picking the calls that were coming in. In that situation, I could have easily switch off the phone. Or remove the battery. Alas none of this could happen. My phone was locked with a password. So there was no way I could switch it off without unlocking the device first. I couldn’t remove the battery because my iPhone battery is not detachable.
But wait ! If my iPhone was to be a human. It would have broken down long ago. I have over used this device. Probably because I prefer using it instead of my PC. It wasn’t a good experience at first. I didn’t have another smartphone at that time.
The experience paid off big time. I had to leverage the internet and dig deep. I discovered what was wrong and I fixed it. It was an exciting experience. Guess what I did – I held the power button and the home button at the same time for 10 seconds. I did that the first time, it didn’t work. I did it for the second time. Lo and behold the Apple logo appeared. My device came back to live and I started enjoying my device.
Ordinarily I would have spent some cash to fix the phone. The implication is this. The phone would have been opened and could start developing faults subsequently. And would have spent more if it was the screen that was faulty. If I had taken it to an engineer, he might probably be looking for a problem that doesn’t exist to tag it. Am glad I did the fixing myself.
