In October 2013, I wrote a two-part piece for this column titled ICT and politics: New vista of opportunities for democracy which can be found on the Punch website. Below is an excerpt from part one of that piece.
“The truth and reality is that technology has changed the game of life forever. If you want to know how obsolete a trend or an idea can quickly become, try to keep up with the current trends in the ICT world. Personally, it’s all about solutions. How can Nigeria as a nation not be only a consumer in the ICT world but also a producer of hardware, software as well as content?
“For today, we would focus on ICT and how it brings about a host of other opportunities in politics. I am of the school of thought that it remains an effective tool to tackle political fraud once there is political will. A growing trend of voters’ apathy in other parts of the world may be a strong indication of the fact that Nigeria may not be the only country experiencing some form of challenges or the other with its political process.”
