As digital disruption continues to remodel the value chains of economies all over the world, industry experts lament that it is quite alarming that African countries are yet to tap into the inherent socio-economic and political power wielded by disruptive technologies.
According to industry experts who gathered at the Disruptive Africa Expo, an annual program organized by Wide tooth Technologies; disruptive technologies is already gained traction in most developed countries and Africa is set up for a tech revolution and businesses within the continent need to either be disruptive or be disrupted.
In his keynote address David Alozie, the Convener, highlighted the prospects of digital disruption in today’s economy and how disruptive technologies will revolutionalize how we live our lives doing basic day to day activities. Pointing out how Disruptive Technologies will help companies cut cost, increase efficiency and maximize profit.
“Startups and SMEs could pull some business operational weight like larger organizations and competes with them head-on while spending incredibly little if they leverage on recent disruptive technologies.
The economic recessions in Nigeria and some other African countries suggest reduction in running cost which can mostly be achieved through Disruptive Technology”, he added
In his opening speech, a representative of the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology disclosed that the Ministry is supportive of the Disruptive Africa Expo, pointing out that the common interest with event considering Lagos State’s disruptive projects around the smart city and other disruptive innovations.
Chukueku Ivan Chukueku, Broadcasting Expert, DigiAfrik Ltd outlined various disruptive technologies used in modern television broadcasting and how they have helped make broadcasting both efficient and cheap. He spoke on the advantage of cloud storage and reporting, and how automation has made TV broadcasting easier with fewer hassles and interruption.
