From experience, the Internet has always been a collaborative effort, which is one reason it has been hugely successful. It is, therefore, not out of place to look at simple ways in which we can contribute positively to sanitize the use of the Internet. Whenever you get any scam mails sent to you on Social Media, for instance, what do you do? The first thing you need to do is to inform the social media platform about it, otherwise, they will not know, hence, cannot take any action.
If you, however, tell them, one of the possible things they will do is to permanently block the spamming account. Not a lasting solution when it comes to social media spam, but at least it is a step in the right direction.
Here are the steps yo need to take to make the report:
- Open the scam mail.
- Depending on the social media platform, look for the “Report Spam” feature, usually around the settings within the mail – I am not referring to the main settings of the site itself. Unfortunately, most social media platforms have not fully integrated this option into their mobile channels yet, therefore, you might be limited to the desktop.
- Once you click on the report spam button, the social media site is alerted and that account gets flagged down automatically. If more people do the same, then the account gets blocked automatically.
This is basically why spammers always request that you should send them an email outside the social media site because they know that they can be blocked anytime. They always include the email address of other platforms in such emails.
The internet is so huge and spammers are on the prowl to scam users online. I urge you to become part of the Internet police that tries to secure the Internet with a click of a button.
