Africa as with the rest of the world has embraced Tech as the new big thing as Tech finds its application in every sector and industry. Since the increased attention in Tech continues to grow all over the world in the last decade or more.
In Africa, Startups have emerged gradually but with time it is also said to have experienced spontaneous growth and some of these startups have become highly rated Tech companies due to how they stand out in the Tech field.
There are a lot of companies in Africa that falls under this category, however, listed below is the top five African Tech Companies according to their impact, in no particular order they include:
Andela
An organization Founded by two Nigerians, One Canadian, two Americans and One Cameroonian in 2014 that specializes in training and incubating IT startups and talents providing them with access to Global opportunities and resources.
Andela currently has various operational locations called campuses in various countries in Africa. Andela has over two hundred companies that work with them in talent development, job placement and internship.
This organization firmly believes in creating a world where gender, race, or even location cannot stop one from building a successful career according to their ability.
Interswitch
This Tech company is classified under fintech, which when elaborated becomes Financial Technology and means the application of technology in financial transactions and activities.
Interswitch has been a giant in Tech in Africa especially in Nigeria. It is even said to have championed the evolution of fintech that has been experienced in the country.
The Verve system ATM cards are owned by Interswitch and the Verve is used in various African countries. Interswitch also owns Quickteller, an online payment system and has acquired a technology called VANSO that provides mobile banking services.
Co-Creation Hub (Cc-HUB)
Co-Creation Hub founded by Femi Longe and Bosun Tijani in 2010 is a technology hub that provides workspace and incubates startups.
Cc-HUB has incubated a lot of successful startups that have gone ahead to make impacts in society, Lifebank, Wecyclers, Genii Games to mention a few.
They have designed various challenges to enhance growth in Africa, the Make-IT Accelerator and Giving4Good Challenge.
Flutterwave
Flutterwave is one of the biggest names in fintech in Africa now, a payment gateway for paying and receiving money from anywhere.
Flutterwave was founded in 2016 and has made considerable impacts in the financial ecosystem ever since. Flutterwave platform provides an e-commerce website, POS system and Issues Virtual ATM cards.
Jumia
The biggest e-commerce website in Africa, since its launch in 2012 by Africa Internet Group Jumia has grown in leaps and bounds in its service offerings.
Jumia’s use of technology to enable customers to purchase goods of their choice from anywhere in the world has been outstanding as the goods are delivered in standard time and quality.
Jumia is one of the tech companies with the highest number of employees with over five thousand people under its employment.
Jumia has won a lot of awards, winning leadership ICT company of the year in 2013 was ranked among the world’s top 50 most brilliant companies in 2016 and 2017.
