Now that we have talked about the definitions of a Learning Management System (LMS), let’s also know its purpose.

A Learning Management System improves or enhances the learning process by delivering and also managing all types of learning content which include; documents, videos, and courses.

It has a wide range of functionality that enhances learning methodologies.

Some features are seen in Learning Management Systems and they include:

  • Management of users, courses, roles, and report generation –  This helps in uploading different courses, assign roles and generate reports from activities.
  • Helps in the management of course activities by creating course calendars.
  • Reminds trainers or instructors of future events or training.
  • Helps in the records or reports of learner’s progress and performance while offering certificates to those who have completed their learning on the system.
  • It also tracks the learner’s competence and matches it with business goals.
  • It gives room for Synchronous and Asynchronous learning.
  • Enables user feedback

One amazing benefit of using LMSs is the Flexibility of Learning. Different learning procedures can be employed for a variety of students.

With LMS, a learner can get different learning materials from various sources and it can also provide a progress report of each unique user.

A major challenge associated with LMS is that Instructors should be willing to change from delivering face-to-face lectures to online lectures.

Every organization can choose a suitable LMS by considering these factors;

  • Adaptability.
  • Results.
  • How accessible and user-friendly it can be.
  • Can enable effective training.

Conclusively, Institutions should look out for LMSs that are built to serve future purposes. It is not wrong to study the description of the product and the company where it came from to be able to make better decisions on which LMS should be used for learning.
