Social Media Scam is on the rise and from experience, the Internet has always been a collaborative effort. That is why it has been hugely successful. Whenever you get any type of scam or spam message sent to you on Facebook or Twitter, you need to ensure that you inform the company about it, otherwise, they will not know, hence, they cannot take any action.
If you, however, notify them, one of the quick things they will do is to permanently block the account. Not a lasting solution though, but at least it is a step in the right direction.
Here’s what you can do:
Open the scam email.
Depending on the social media platform, look for the “Report Spam” feature, usually around the settings within the mail you just received – I am not talking about the main settings of the platform now. Unfortunately, most social media platforms have not fully integrated this option into their mobile channel; you can only perform this on desktop.
Once you click on the report spam button, the social media site is alerted and that account gets flagged down automatically. If more people do the same, then the account gets blocked automatically.
