Prof Pat Utomi
Prof pat utomi will be a guest on the ict radio show

Welcome to another exciting edition of the ICT Radio Show! Our guest on this week’s edition is Prof Pat Utomi, an eminent professor of political economy and management expert who has over the years played various roles in helping Nigeria becoming a more technologically driven economy.

He was instrumental in the setup of Linkserve at a time when Nigerians could barely own email accounts talk less of accessing the Internet and he also played a vital role in the eventual emergence of Swift Networks.

Topic: The Making of the next Alibaba; Africa in Perspective.

I decided that we should discuss this topic because of the remarkable story of Jack Ma who started out as an English teacher but today the Chairman of Alibaba.com, the 4th most valued tech company in the world. Here is the more interesting part;

According to a Businessweek profile from 2012, “Ma shows little interest in technology: He doesn’t spend much time online and depends on a colleague to help him download U.S. TV shows to his iPad. Instead, he dabbles in poker, traditional medicine and other pastimes.”

How Alibaba started? Fifteen years ago, Ma gathered a group of friends in his one-bedroom apartment to create Alibaba, a service that would help small businesses in China use the Internet to connect with markets abroad.

So some of the questions Prof Pat Utomi will need to answer are as follows;

  • Are we making progress as Africans who wish to see our own version of Alibaba?
  • How can refocus and reposition our various Tech companies to be the next big thing?
  • Who should we really on to make this happen?

These and many more questions we’d throw at Prof Pat Utomi for the listening pleasure of the audience. Remember, you can send in your questions before the show or call in during the show via email info at ictwithcfa dot com or with #ictradioshow
