One great aspect of technology is that it has the capacity of helping you become more efficient, thereby saving you money especially in difficult economic times. As you already know, the prices of a number of items have increased exponentially and the average Nigerian has been adversely affected in many ways.

It may interest you to note that that Nigeria was rated by PayPal as the third largest mobile shopper worldwide in 2015 behind China and India after spending a whopping N128.1bn, ($610 million).

The implication of this is that, Nigerians are huge spenders but sadly, we’re spending big to oil the economies of other countries while our young minds are left idle and small businesses are closing shop in droves. In retrospect, I wonder what percentage of Nigerians who contributed to that statistics used coupon or discount codes before making an actual purchase.

My personal strategy, often times, is to search online for a coupon code or write a company asking for deal or special discount before making a purchase. It has become a habit because I believe that a lot of businesses that operate online make provisions for this although I do not succeed all the time but I still go ahead and try.

It is important to reiterate that technology does have a way of making one to cut cost only if one can get a bit savvy and you need not be a tech guru before you can apply certain strategies that can help you achieve this goal.

In most cases, it is just about getting the proper information; some pieces of information are just priceless. If you are reading this piece, then I urge you to always seek for new ways to make technology work for you and even save you costs.

As a quick example, did you know that you can keep sending text messages for free using your iPhone? You can only find that out if you have the hunger to seek for information that is relevant online.

If you are using an iPhone, you could download the Textfree app for just $5 from the Apple store and never pay for a text message again! This is a great deal. The only thing that is required is for the application to be launched or open at all times, so as to receive text messages.
