Nigerian Telecom Industry Records Significant Growth- Data Shows

Data released by the Nigerian Communications Commissions (NCC) indicate that the Nigerian Telecom industry is making headways recording significant growth in the first two quarters of 2016.

Basic Highlights of the Infrographics

  • MTN Nigeria is the leading telecommunication provider in Nigeria with 31 percent market share. Globacom comes second with 24 percent, Airtel has 21 percent wne Etisalat 16 15 percent market share.    
  • The Nigerian Telecom industry has Foreign Direct Investment of $38 billion.
  • As at June, the total number of subscriber stood at 149.8million, while total number of active GSM lines stood at 149.1million. 
  • Up to 20 mobile brands operating in Nigeria do not have Nigerian Communications Commission approval.
  • Finally, 70 percent of ecommerce transaction that took place in Nigeria, happened via smartphone.  
  • MTN has 58 million subscriber, Airtel has 32 million, Globacom has 36million, and Etisalat 22million.

From all indications the Nigerian telecom industry is growing rapidly attracting Foreign Direct Investment. The industry recorded a significant growth of 107 percent in subscribers’ teledensity
