NCC Stats: Globacom Records Highest Gains in Subscription for September

In September 2020, the total number of active telephony subscriptions reached over 2 million according to monthly industry statistics published by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

This number is an indication that the subscribers have grown by 1.7 million in the month under reference.

According to the distribution of the numbers, the telecoms company with the highest number of additional customers is Globacom.

The telco saw subscription rise by 2.32 million, bringing Globacom’s total number of subscribers to 54.25 million.

Airtel followed by gaining an additional 483,851 subscribers to its list and these numbers have turned the Telco’s numbers to 55.25 million.

9mobile has been maintaining its steady rate since June while adding 351,610 subscribers in September.

This in total brings the number of its subscribers to hit 12.72 million.

MTN on the other hand maintained its market leadership but lost a significant number of subscribers in September.

This is the first time in the past 12 months that the telco giant will be dropping numbers.

MTN lost 448,431 subscribers from 83,083,913 in August to 82,635,082 in September.

Internet subscribers hit 151 million

All 4 major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) amassed a considerable number of subscribers in September. Nigeria now has 151,512,122 internet subscribers as of September.

Result s from NCC’s industry statistics also indicated that Globacom and MTN had the highest number of internet subscribers, precisely 638,230, bringing the total to 39.12 million.

Airtel added 519,257, bringing it to 40.31 million in September.

From June, 9mobile added 104,473 internet subscribers, totaling its numbers to 7.27 million.

Broadband penetration hits 45.43%

With an indication of 2.13% increase in September, Nigeria’s broadband penetration hits an all-time high, hitting 45.43%.

The country also saw an increase in the subscription on 3G and 4G networks from 82.65 million to 86.71 million.

Porting activity

9mobile recorded 6,963 users from other networks, gaining more in September Followed closely by Airtel with 6,506 subscribers, MTN closed by 5,635 while Globacom recorded its low in porting activities with barely 308 porters from other networks.
