The Nigerian Telecommunications commission, NCC received the awarded the 2017 edition of the WebJurist Awards in the Parastatal category, beating Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC and Bank of Industry, BOI, to the second and third positions, respectively, at an event held at Phillips Consulting Nigeria, on the 4th floor of UBA House, on Marina Street, Lagos Island.
The WebJurists Awards, is an award conceived by Phillips Consulting Nigeria about 16 years ago, in 2001, with the objective to critically and objectively evaluate the effectiveness of Websites in Nigeria. The focus is now in 6 categories, which are Banks, Insuraance, State Governments, Parastatals, Telco Operators and Airlines.
Engr. Abraham Oshadami, Head of Information Technology, NCC, received the award on behalf of NCC. Speaking after the award, Engr. Oshadami expressed delight at receiving the award on behalf of NCC, stating that the NCC always tries to use its website to portray the image of the Commission, while commending the effort of its dedicated staff and the intention to do more in making the NCC website more interactive.
There were 6 criteria followed in evaluating the websites and these include, the Aesthetics of the website, which examines adherence to key design principles, such as legibility of text, functionality of graphics and appropriate use of colors, The Technical and Security and Security aspect, which examines the functionality of the site, based on the ease of navigation, as well as the security features implemented on the site and the Site Content, which evaluates the accuracy and freshness of information presented on the site, as well as the presentation of web content.
The other areas examined, include Web Transaction Processing, which evaluates the ease with which a customer is able to actually transact business effectively on the website, Consumer Experience, which evaluates the extent to which a customer or potential investor’s needs are satisfied and last, but not the least, Performance, which evaluates the overall performance of the site, by measuring such critical metrics as the extent to which web pages have been optimized and the speed with which web pages are displayed.
The NCC website, https://www.ncc.gov.ng/ beat the websites of all other Parastatals in Nigeria in all these criteria.
Oluwaseun Ngonnase, Senior Partner, Phillips Consulting Nigeria, stated that the evaluation of the websites, based on the criteria stated above, is all about adding business value and meeting up to standards by these organisations, especially, in the area of adding to revenue, efficiency in service delivery and cost reduction, through having a god website. “Social Media integration, is the core business tool to introduce your business”, Oluwaseun emphasised.
Access Bank also won the award in the Banks category, beating Zenith Bank and United Bank for Africa, UBA, to the second and third places respectively, while Fin Insurance won the award in the Insurance category, beating AXA Mansard Insurance and Leadway Assurance to the second and third places respectively.
This is the second year that NCC will be winning this award, as it also won it in 2016.
