Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has met Nigerian engineers, entrepreneurs, and technologist in Lagos, urging them to seek knowledge continually and learn new skills, a virtue which he described as one of the keys to his success.
Zuckerberg who could not hide his excitement and admiration for Nigerian engineers, entrepreneurs and technologist, emphasized that exploring new ways of doing something and seeking to learn more would be of value to Nigerian entrepreneurs.
“When I started Facebook it was not like this; it went through series of processes. It all began in the college, and now we have 18 million active users in Africa which are not bad. And all these were made possible through a continuous learning process and applying the knowledge”, Zuckerberg said.
He, therefore, urged Nigerian entrepreneurs and engineers not to shy away from failure noting that failure is a prerequisite to solving the world’s problem.
“I get a lot of questions, people ask me what’s your greatest failure, and I don’t think that’s what matters. It is a failure that would make you learn. When you learn a new thing skill apply them, just learn as much as you can. You can’t just depend on what you know in entrepreneurial journey, he added.
However, it a fact that Zuckerberg visit would deepen technology skills acquisition and investment in Nigeria. Meanwhile, Facebook CEO and his wife already invested $24million in Nigeria, and the Nigerian tech industry is in good shape to benefit from further investments, following kind remarks.
In his words, Time Achibong, Facebook Director of Global Products said: “when I came to Lagos in May this year, I was struck by the energy of the tech scene here and by how many people were building.
As someone with close links to Nigeria, I have been trying to expose Zuckerberg to the ecosystem for a while. I am very excited for him to be able to come to Nigeria and meet some of Nigeria’s top entrepreneurs and developers, he added.
