Online retail service extension to the north being is being heralded by one of Nigeria’s largest online trader; Jumia. Jumia was launched in Lagos in 2012 as Africa’s version of Amazon.com. Since its birth, it has spread its reach to other countries in the content including Egypt, Kenya, Uganda, Morocco, and Ivory Coast.
The recent attempt to widen its reach has seen Jumia spread its wings to Kano and other Nigerian States. The company’s CEO, ‘Nicola Martin‘ when talking about the expansion said that it would see thousands of smiles delivered to many people around Nigeria. He added that this is just the start of many other expansions that will be coming in months to come. The aim of the company according to Nicola is to invent new ways of reaching a bigger clientele and that the company already has set up hub stations in nine other states in Nigeria.
This comes only days after this company that is owned by Rocket Internet widen its international reach by allowing customers living in the United Kingdom to shop for friends and relatives living in Nigeria. This was possible after the e-commerce business sprung a Web pop-up shop.
The company offers users several modes of paying for goods delivered and this has been estimated to promote growth of the e-commerce business. People living in the northern states can pay for goods bought on Jumia on delivery.
