Along with the celebrated brands such as Xiaomi and Huawei, iOcean is climbing the ranks as an outstanding smartphone manufacturer from China. iOcean has recently continued to stamp its presence on the smartphone market, with the launch of its latest smartphone, the 158 grams iOcean M6752 smartphone.
The latest iOcean M6752 Android smartphone can simply be described as ‘big and powerful’ given its large and enhanced display, powered by Android 4.4 (KitKat) operating system, and the 1.7GHz processor, among other features. More notably, the device carries a 1080p 5.5 inch display and the whopping 3 GB of RAM with 4G support.
- Case
The front is covered with a glass-like material while the back cover matches a sandstone surface giving it a unique texture and different from the usual metal, plastic and leather feel by other brands. To complete the package, the reflective chrome covers the front face of the phone.
The package comes with a protective case, since the chassis is not strong enough to survive a fall.
Display.
With the dense 411 PPI which provides clean pictures with bright colors on the screen, the display on the iOcean M6752 can simply be described as fantastic. The CalMan 5 measurements have shown that its color reproduction is good and consistent, as it remained consistent across all saturation levels. The display contrast is as well superb at 1000:1 owed to the low back levels. Besides, the maximum brightness is very sharp, which is comparable to top smartphones such as Sony Xperia Z3 and the iPhone 6 plus, at an average of approximately 550 nits.
In spite of the display having an inaccurate shade of blue and slightly poor with the RGB balance, iOcean is still good for outdoor usability, thanks to the bright display backlight and high contrast. It is, therefore, greatly recommended to set the display to maximum brightness in a sunny environment to lower the brightness from the ‘lustrous’ screen.
In the past, the company have had issues with the ambient light sensor, for example with iOcean X7 model, but they have, fortunately, corrected that on M6752 model.
Moreover, the phone is fortified by the IPS panel that is responsible for the wide viewing angles making it possible to share watching videos and viewing pictures with others nearby.
Performance.
The iOcean M6752 comes powered with the most recent 64 bit MT6752 octa-core processor from Mediatek processor that suits the reasonably powerful hardware as well as the 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 display. Apart from the unique octacore MediaTek M6752 SoC, the iOcean M6752 also has the whopping amount of RAM at 3GB that is still rare to find in a good number of high-end devices on the smartphone market.
System performance.
The Android KitKat software functions excellently on the iOcean M6752, for users to play the latest apps and games. Although, you may experience slight latency issues in few instances, this is never a real issue as most of the time. multitasking works devoid of any stuttering with a quick and responsive zooming experience through webpages.
Gaming performance.
With the Qualcomm Adreno 305, iOcean M6752 has a fine frame rate for playing both the 2D and 3D titles in the Android market.
Storage Devices.
The iOcean comes with an internal 16 GB storage capacity that allows only 12.77 GB of free storage space for the end-user. Due to the AndroBench ranks, launching and installing apps feels a bit smoother given the high ranking of the internal SSD for fast write speeds and sequential read.
This smartphone also has the Micro SD slot that supports up to 64 GB cards.
Input devices.
The iOcean M6752 boasts of the 5-point capacity touchscreen that is highly responsive and accurate. There are no major onscreen inactivity delays even when typing fast. It also has the ‘virtual keyboard’, which supports Chinese as well.
- Cameras.
The rear camera is presented at 14 MP and the front-facing camera at 5 MP. The rear camera has several features such as the panorama mode, autofocus, HDR, flashlight, low ISO, and motion tracking, among others. The real megapixels put actual resolution at 12 MP (4160 × 3120) and 4.7 MP (2880 × 1728) for both the rear and front-facing cameras respectively.
The cameras are not great because they produce image noise, lack sharpness and evidence of purple fringing. The cameras also tend to underexpose if the lighting conditions are uneven. Despite the camera drawbacks, the cameras are still good for both outdoors and indoors and will record up to 1080p for videos best when shooting outdoors with adequate ambient lighting.
Communication and GPS.
Wireless connectivity comprises of 802.11 a/b/g/n with integrated Miracast and Bluetooth. Despite the drawback on Wi-Fi range, which fails to meet the 20 meters range, the Wi-Fi is reliable with no latency issues and the GPS radio links to the existing satellites relatively quickly without hitches and even minus the A-GPS support.
Connectivity.
iOcean M6752 has the microphone and micro-USB 2.0 ports at the bottom edge; the power and volume rocker buttons at the right edge; a 3mm audio port at the top edge; with no port or button at the left edge.
On the other hand, users may experience problems when charging because the USB port can at times feel loose, hence, it is advisable to remove the back cover before charging.
Telephone and speech quality.
The compatible bands for iOcean M6752 include 4G (FDD-LTE 800/1800/2600 MHz, TD-LTE 1880-1920/2300-2400/2555-2655 MHz), 3G (WCDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz), and 2G (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz).
The call quality is rated below average because of the noticeable static and stutter cases when listening through the iOcean earpiece at higher volumes. Likewise, the microphone produces poor voice quality too. These needs improvement.
- Emissions.
Speakers
The sound from the stereo speakers on the back of the smartphone is of poor quality at maximum volume, hence, it is recommended to play music or videos through the use of earphones through the 3.5 mm audio port.
Heat.
The maximum surface temperature is about 35 degrees Celsius when the smartphone is under heavier processing loads making it easy to handle and convenient for extended high loads. When idle, the surface temperature goes flat as the processing cores are usually disabled.
Battery life.
iOcean M6752 uses the 2300 mAh removable Li-ion Polymer battery pack, which is slightly larger than the 2000 mAh battery packs of the 5-inch iOcean X7S and X7 models. Noticeably, iOcean has a relatively short battery runtime compared to other smartphones with the WLAN runtime test showing that it goes for almost 6 hours at 150 nit light intensity.
Verdict.
iOcean has proven to perform very well in many aspects and has fallen flat in a few others. Despite the few drawbacks on poor voice quality and short battery life, it is still worthy identifying the beautiful 5.5 inch 1080p display, high hardware performance, good temperature control, marvelous casing and the massive 3 GB of RAM bringing out a fantastic multimedia experience.
