Drones are basically known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), aerial vehicles without any pilot. In more simple terms, a drone is a flying robot. A drone can be remotely controlled or can fly autonomously by means of artificial intelligent software working along with GPS.

Some Interesting uses of Drone

When anywhere we hear the word drones, we instantly think of them as a great toy which can fly and take some pictures, but the fact is, people are utilizing drones in many different ways these days. Lots of people are developing a hobby of making and flying their own drones. It is presumed that, in next five years, drones will be utilized to carry out numerous useful, and sometimes, very unusual functions. Here I have listed some of the most interesting uses for drones around the world:

  1. Military Use

Nowadays, Drones are used extensively in the Military. Some of the uses include Reconnaisance behind enemy lines, bomb delivery, etc. Drones are used to quickly observe terrains that are difficult to reach without actually going there.

  2. Delivering

Drones are not only used for delivering books or other small online purchases made, but also used for flying lunch directly to customers. A small German startup called DönerCopter delivers Kebab to their customers as quickly as possible. Based on their website, their “Kebab Drones” can travel at speeds of up to 110 km/h. Also, many renowned pizza shops have lately tested supplying pizza through a remote-controlled drone, that can bring two big pizzas and deliver them in 10 minutes within a 6 kilometer radius. It is really impressive, isn’t it?

Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, has recently announced that his company is examining drones that will deliver products in as little as thirty minutes after an online purchase. By making use of buckets, the drones are designed to carry loads of up to five pounds at a time

  3. Gathering Data & Specimen For Disease Preventing Researches (Still Being Tested)

You may wonder: how can drones be used to gather data and specimen for disease Preventing researches? Well, Microsoft is testing drones for medical purposes. The basic process is really simple; drones are set up with a bug collecting device and then flown around various areas of interest. The Drone comes back with the gathered insects which are then used by scientists for research. The Research is then used to predict different outbreaks, so that preventive measures can be taken.

  4. Surveillance

A very popular use of drones is in the field of security and surveillance. Drones are used in prison surveillance, road traffic monitoring, police investigations, fire fighting, search & rescue etc.

  5. Weather Monitoring

Drones are used in monitoring the weather and the data from this are used in weather forecast, etc.

Over the past few years, drones have become very popular and I am certain that these flying drones will become even more popular. In the near future, they are likely to become an essential part of our everyday lives like our cellphones.
