Before now, Blackberry lovers had pondered over the certitude of WhatsApp not to run on big smart devices like Blackberry 10 series platform.

Despite the fact that Blackberry raised hopes that it’s exploring other options, Blackberry enthusiasts are losing confidence as there is no alternative provided by Blackberry Limited yet.

“As the app landscape continues to evolve, our commitment to BlackBerry 10 and our developers is unwavering,” the Canadian company told TechRadar. “We are actively exploring alternatives for BlackBerry users once support of WhatsApp Messenger for BBOS and BlackBerry 10 ends in late 2016.”

Meanwhile, it’s not only BB10 users that would suffer this fate, devices such as Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1, Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1 also will no longer be supported by WhatsApp at the end of 2016.

WhatsApp says that for the next seven years, it wants to concentrate on the platforms that the “the vast majority of people use.

If you employ a handset that runs on one of the affected operating systems and wants to remain a WhatsApp user, the messaging app has a one-word recommendation for you, “Upgrade!”

“When we started WhatsApp in 2009, people’s use of mobile devices looked very different from today. The Apple App Store was only a few months old. About 70 percent of smartphones sold at the time had operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia. Mobile operating systems provided by Google, Apple and Microsoft – which account for 99.5 percent of sales today – were on less than 25 percent of mobile devices sold at the time.”-WhatsApp noted.

However, if you just bought your BB10 device and you aren’t ready to let it go, here are the tips to make WhatsApp work on your BB10 smartphone.

  • Install Opera browser (not Opera Mini) again from Google Play Store.
  • Start Opera browser in desktop mode, type in web.whatsapp.com. You will come up with common QR code.
  • Open Android whatsApp application already installed, open WhatsApp Web to scan the QR code.
  • On Opera browser immediately take a picture of the QR code with another mobile device, (You should be quick because the QR code keeps on changing after few seconds).
  • Now in WhatsApp application scan the QR code from the picture of the second Mobile device.
  • If you are quick and everything goes OK, then WhatsApp Web will start in your Opera browser.
  • Now you can send Media and files through WhatsApp Web on the same mobile device.
  • You can use the WhatsApp application for all other tasks including calls.
  • And for the Media and files you can use the WhatsApp Web on your Opera browser
  • Keep the Android whatsApp application open or minimized to use the WhatsApp Web in Opera browser.

In conclusion, try to Install Android latest version from Google play store.
