Due to the challenges of COVID-19, NiRA was forced to move its 2020 Annual General Meeting from April 2020 to July 2020.

The guidelines set out by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to contain the spread of COVID-19 had barred the gathering of people so NiRA held the 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of its members on Thursday, July 30, 2020, via the NiRA’s Zoom platform.

The virtual AGM was chaired by Mr. Muhammed Rudman, the NiRA President.

In his Opening statement to Members, he reported on the growth of the .ng brand and improvement in the operations of NiRA.

The President’s statement also highlighted the plans for the year as stated below:

  • Increase in Domain Name registrations – Through intensive marketing and brand awareness.
  • Increase in the number of Accredited Registrars and Resellers – Improve NiRA’s visibility across the country through various initiatives.
  • Excellence in service provision – Enhance NiRA’s core systems/services and swift resolution of issues by the support staff

At the virtual AGM, members received the 2019 Annual Report, Independent Auditors Report, Financial Statements of the Association for the year ended December 31, 2019, and 2020 Business Plan.

As part of its 2019 Achievements, the President stated that NiRA ended the year 2019 with fresh 61,939 newly registered domain names, 39,163 renewed domain names, and 147,745 active domain names: with the inclusion of gov.ng, Premium domains, and domains registered for more than one year.

Three (3) new registrars were accredited whilst two existing registrars upgraded their category of operations.

Though the hosting of virtual AGM is a novelty, NiRA members enjoyed the experience and it was an effective channel for hosting the 2020 NiRA AGM.

The members commended the NiRA Executive Board of Directors for the efficient and effective operations and management of NiRA.
