Last week I wrote on a post on .“Why GE Partnered Lagos State on Tech Conference for Startups”. Now, the European Union (EU) is seeking partnership with Nigeria in the area of technology. The whole idea is for both the EU and Nigeria to develop and effectively exchange technologies.
Technology is making waves in Nigeria and having series of partnerships with the right people is one of the ways to keep the ball rolling. These recent partnership appears to be right and Nigeria must leverage such partnerships and grow the tech ecosystem. The tech industry in Nigeria will only survive if it intensifies efforts towards strengthening collaborations in different areas.
It was reported that a three-man delegation from the EU visited the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) last week. NOTAP is charged with the responsibility of nurturing national talents. As well as creating an enabling environment to initiate strategies to protect all the stakeholders and their creative works. But the truth is that we need NOTAB and NITDA (National Information Technology Development Agency) to do more effective collaborations and strategic partnerships.
At this stage, Nigeria doesn’t just need partners for partnering sake, we need more than that. It has to be more strategic and result oriented. The time to just sign MoU without anything being achieved in the long run is gone. With this one, there is going to be a difference. Nigeria is seen as the major market in Africa with lots of potentials to be tapped.
“We visited Nigeria to partner and exchange experiences on market development opportunities to grow their global programme; as well as the Galileo and Egnos Satellite navigational signals,” Augusto Gonzalez, Adviser, EU Satellite Navigation Programmes of the European Commission (EC) said.
The EU affirms Nigeria as a significant hub in Africa and seeks to market Galileo and EGNOS. These are constellation of 22 satellites in space that Nigeria can take advantage of as it was available to the public free of charge and provides improved global positioning.
The European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) is Europe’s regional satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) that is used to improve.
