Ranked as one of the topmost banks in Africa, Ecobank has extended its applications for the third edition of its, now yearly start-ups challenge, known as Ecobank Fintech Challenge.

With the world currently battling with the coronavirus pandemic and some major business organisations, shutting down, owing to the spread of the virus, there arises a need, for new and innovative ways of handling business transactions.

This challenge could not have come at a better time, as the previous two editions have produced start-ups that have been able to provide solutions, through technology, on how money is sent and received in a fast, safer and innovative ways.

The first edition was won by a start-up from Tanzania called, “Nala”, while the second edition was won, by a start-up, from Nigeria, called, “IroFit”. The Ecobank Fintech Challenge is, open to all start-ups, across the 54 countries in Africa. As long as you have a solution that will impact the Fintech ecosystem, Ecobank invites you to apply.

“As a banking group, we continue to be amazed at the many ways, in which fintech are transforming banking across Africa. We look forward to the new innovations and partnership opportunities that will come, with the 2020 edition”, stated Eddy Ogbogu, Ecobank’s Group Executive, for Operations and Technology.

Through a process, applicants will be screened and selected finalists will, also, be given the opportunity to join Ecobank Fintech Fellows, which will open the pathway, for the start-ups, to participate and function, in a business Bootcamp, organized by the bank.

Selected finalists will, also, attend the Awards and Innovation Fair, which will take place, in June 2020, at the Bank’s HQ, in Lomé, Togo.

“The fintech challenge and fellowship had been improved upon, to create additional value, for both Ecobank and participating fintech start-ups”, stressed Djiba Diallo, Ecobank Senior Fintech Advisor.

“We took feedback from the past editions and one of the major innovations, this year is the opportunity, for shortlisted fintech, to access our APIs, through our pan-African Sandbox”, concluded Diallo.

Application for this year’s Ecobank Fintech Challenge can be accessed here and will close on Friday, May 1, 2020, after it was moved from its initial deadline date of Sunday, April 12, 2020.
