The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive (EVC/CE) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta recently hosted top officials of the British High Commission (BHC) at the NCC Head Office in Abuja.

The BHC team, lead by Guy Harrison, Head of Prosperity at the British High Commission, came to deepen the conversations about partnering with the NCC in the execution of the Global Digital Access Programme initiated by Her Majesty’s Government.

Accompanied by Idongesit Udoh, Digital Access Programme Adviser, and Grace Olomiwe, the Digital, Press and Public Affairs Officer at BHC, Harrison informed Danbatta about components of the Programme.

The central interest according to Harrison is digital access. Peripherally, the programme will also involve security support as well as support to the business ecosystem.

The implementation of the programme will be expressed in form of technical assistance on policy that focuses on expanding digital access in order to enhance job creation and enhance economic development in Nigeria.

In his response, Danbatta expressed appreciation to BHC for the initiative. The EVC recalled efforts being made by NCC to ensure connectivity across Nigeria especially to link identified access gaps with existing connectivity networks.

Danbatta noted that the assistance is coming at an auspicious time. He promised Harrison and his team that NCC will review the proposition and liaise with appropriate departments of the Nigerian government in order to institute processes that will ensure proper and speedy take off of the programme.
