Recently, the Happiness Research Institute based in Denmark released a report that proves that Facebook might Actually be making you sad and gloomy. I downloaded a copy of the research report from their website and found it pretty interesting.
The institute conducted a research with 1,095 active Facebook users. Here are some stats on those used:
- 94% visit Facebook as part of a daily routine
- 78% use Facebook 30 minutes or more daily
- 86% browse the news feed often or very often
- 69% prefer to post pictures of the great things they experience
- 61% prefer to post their good sides
A quick glance at the figures thrown up by the research indicates that quite a number of people do browse Facebook, which is only one, out of the other social media platforms. The issue is that a lot of people have more than one social media platform on which they spend too much precious time they could have used on something else hat could improve their lives.
For me, the point is simple – we must all come to terms with the fact that despite the positive solutions technology brings to our lives, one of the greatest tragedies of our super-connected world is information overload which leads to a number of things.
My final word of advice is that we must learn to be in full control of modern technology – know when to shut down to screens and focus on other important areas of life. The word here is BALANCE!
You may want to share, with others here, your experiences on how staying too long browsing made you miss out on other important things that could have improved your life.
