The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, and Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, met with Governor Kayode Fayemi, the Governor of Ekiti State, who doubles as the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, on Thursday, January 16, 2020.

The discussion centred on the resolution of the Right of Way fee issue and other similar challenges, affecting the telecoms industry.

It will be recalled that, a few weeks ago, it was severally reported that the Governors of 14 States in the Federation, have astronomically, increased the Right of Way fees, in their various States.

This is, in spite of the fact that, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, assured the general public at a media parley, earlier this Month that, he had written to the Governors in Nigeria and the National Economic Council, NEC, on resolving the issue.

Isa ali ibrahim pantami, the honourable minister of communications and digital economy and governor kayode fayemi, the governor of ekiti state and chairman of the nigerian governors forum, at a meeting held in abuja on thursday, january 16, 2020.

“I have written to all the Governors in Nigeria, on the need to comply, with the National Economic Council, (NEC), resolution, on the Right of Way, (RoW)”, Pantami had stated, at a media parley and press briefing, held at Treasure Suites, Maitama, Abuja, on January 3, 2020.

The issue of the Right of Way fee had been a knotty issue that has been slowing down the laying of fibre optic cables that would improve the broadband penetration in the country.

It is hoped that the meeting held yesterday, between the Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy and Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC and Governor Kayode Fayemi, the Governor of Ekiti State and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, will be a precursor to the final resolution of the issue of the Right of Way fee.
