Open source technology has been around for quite some time. It involves the development of software that offers the users the freedom to redistribute, edit source code for use. The open source community comprises of experienced developers who focus on creating developing products and the numerous users set to benefit from the software. The developers are more focused on gaining recognition from their peers and the users as opposed to monetary reward. As a result of this, they focus on functionality of the codes rather than marketability.

Some of the open source programs include Mozilla Firefox, Chromium, etc. Open source technology boasts of several benefits that it brings to users. Below, are some of those benefits.

Reliability

Most open source technology result in software development that are reliable and accurate. Since the source code is often left open for anyone to edit out, it is easier for people to remove bugs and other errors present. Also, they welcome divergent views. The developers of open source software are normally highly trained and experienced programmers who have years of experience in the industry. As a result, they normally focus on producing error free programs that will serve people for a long time. As a result, these software usually reliable.

Stability

Most computer jobs require specific softwares to be installed to get them perfectly done. These software perform tasks that are set and unless the job changes, there is no need to alter the software. Open source software are very good in this regard for they do not require alteration. They just perform their tasks as required. This brings a lot of stability at work. Open source software do not allow third party applications to be installed and, therefore, are not made unstable by other installations.

Auditability

You can audit the source code in open source technology. The source code is a set of programming texts that makes a program work. In open source programs, therefore, you can edit out the code, making the program or software to run well. This is very important as it enables you to access different features that are contained in the program. If you are good at programming, you can edit out the programs
by yourself.

Cost

Many open source programs are usually distributed for free for users while some are distributed at a premium.

Flexibility

Open source programs are flexible in that you can edit out the source code of these programs to meet your individual needs. Open source technology is, surely, one crucial aspect of technology that helps users to get by with ease.
