ASUS, an International Technological company with base in Taiwan, on Friday, December 4, 2015 had a Media Launch of a set of four Zenfone family of smartphones. The event took place at the Four Points By Sheraton Hotels, V.I., Lagos, amid pomp and pageantry as the compere, Rufai Oseni of Inspiration FM, Lagos did a yeoman’s job to see that there was no dull moment.
Speaking at the Event, Simplice Zaongo of ASUS, in a presentation, gave the names of the four phones being launched as Zenfone Selfie 5.5, Zenfone Laser 5.5, Zenfone GO 5.0 and Zenfone C 4.5, which is a budget phone. These set of phones are said to smoothly handle tasks and delivers other functions efficiently. He also gave the vital statistics and capabilities of each phone.
The presentation of the Zenfone Selfie by Lawrence, was the high point of the Media Launch as the unique features and capabilities of the phone, especially the camera, were displayed. The 13 Mega Pixel front and back view is something of an innovation as, usually, many phones of its class have between 5 and 8 Mega pixel. This gives a wider coverage for the images. It also ensures that no one is cut out of pictures taken with the phone. Other features on the camera include taking selfies or group selfies and sharing to all the members that took part in the group selfie shot through the Party Links App, sync with a laptop or Personal Computer, beautify your photograph through the Beautification mode if you feel justice was not done to the photograph taken and, most interestingly, you can make a short Mini Movie out of your photographs by selecting Mini Movie.
The Zenfone Selfie is sleek to handle as it has the “crystal miracle back texture” made up of 500 polygons at the back which gives it a firm grip when held and appeals to ones senses. Its 72% Screen to Body ratio provides more viewing space. The Zenfone selfie is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which display offers twice the drop-damage resistance, 2.5 times increase in retained strength. it is also 85% less likely to break in daily use as well as having an anti-scratch coating! It is a touch-screen display phone that responds to touch even while using a glove, a feat that is impossible with many other smartphones around. The Zenfones come with one year Warranty.
Nigeria is the first African country where the Zenfone series is being launched by ASUS. Coscharis Technologies Limited is the Sole Distributor of the ASUS Zenfone series in Nigeria. Mr Mukoro Emomine Sunday, the MD of Coscharis Technologies Limited stated that Coscharis is not doing this for the sales and profit alone, but because the Zenfones add value to the lives of the users. Alvin, the ASUS Director for English Speaking Africa, also stated ASUS Zenfone accessories will also be made available to consumers through Coscharis Technologies Limited.
The ASUS organization, worldwide, has an employee strength of about 16,000 plus, out of which about 5,000 are dedicated to springing up daily innovations in the Research and Development department of the company. The revenue of the company stood at about $4.5 Billion and expected to rise way above that in 2015. The company started as a component manufacturer. In 2003, it became the world number one Motherboard manufacturer with over 500,000,000 shipped since it started manufacturing Motherboards. In 2007, it went into the manufacture of the first Mini Laptop in the world and becoming one of the top 3 consumer Laptop vendors in the world in 2003. It also went into the manufacture of a Tablet with keyboard to help those who find it difficult transiting from Laptop keyboard to Tablet in 2011.
The first series of Zenfone were launched in Asia in 2014, followed by the ZenWatch, a smartphone which is connected to phone. This year, 2015, ASUS was voted by Fortune as one of the Top 10 World Most Admired Company. ASUS is bringing these 4 series of Zenfones to Nigeria, Africa’s most vibrant market and a thorough review of the phones, especially in the aspect of performance, will be presented after we must have tested the phones at the Techsmart HQ.
