Apple Watch is one of the best smart watches produced by Apple Inc. The news of releasing Apple Watch was announced by Tim Cook on 9TH September 2014. This is Apple’s first wearable device. The Pre orders of Apple watch will start on 10th April 2015, and it will be available on the market on 24th April 2015.
According to the Apple’s official website, Apple Watch is the best personal product they’ve ever made. This smart watch is probably the most anticipated wearable in the market now.
Apple Watch is coming with lots of new features and excitements including fitness monitoring and health-oriented features and also integration with iOS and other Apple services and products. It is like a constant companion that is mainly created to inform when a text comes, keep track of your tasks and even dial and receive calls. To, however, grab the full facilities and to perform many of its functions, you must have an iPhone. This device is compatible with the iPhone 5 or later versions that use iOS 8.2 as operating system.
Design: The Apple Watch is coming in three different models: Apple Watch Sport which is created from aluminum and Ion-X Glass, Apple Watch Collection which is made from stainless steel and sapphire crystal glass and the last one is Apple Watch Edition which is built using 18-karat gold with sapphire. And each of these versions has two different sizes,38 mm and 42 mm high, for people who prefer a smaller or bigger watch respectively on their hand. The Apple Watch seems to be a tiny iPhone 6 from the front view. It features the familiar round corners, the dark screen border as well as the bent edges to the screen. The device is charged through inductive charging, making use of a wire cable a lot like the MagSafe cable of Apple’s MacBook family laptops. Developers can make applications for Apple watch by using the software framework called WatchKit that is incorporated with the iOS SDK.
Display Screen: The display screen of Apple Watch is a pressure-sensitive touch screen which can easily differentiate between a press and a tap. It is made from versatile Retina sapphire-glass screen which is very clear and vibrant. The screen also has a digital crown that can be pressed to return to the home screen and switched to scrolling, zooming and customizing. It’s a truly a brilliant solution which allows you to personalize different settings including contextual information and color schemes rapidly. There is also a button on the right side of the watch which is used to display the list of contacts.
Hardware: This smart watch uses Apple’s new super speedy Apple S1 processor that allows you to run the programs very efficiently without having any problems. A linear actuator called “Taptic Engine” is also used to produce hap-tic feedback whenever a notification or an alert is obtained. The watch features a built-in heartbeat sensor, which utilizes infrared and visible LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) and photo diodes. The watch is water-proof with IPX7 rating; therefore, water submersion is not suggested. All models of this Watch are coming with an 8 GB of storage space that enables the consumers to store as much as 75 MB of photos and 2 GB of music.
Apps and Functionalities: Outside the box the wearable is coming with a lot of built-in apps for your messaging, photos, email, calendar, Maps, weather, and much more, which will allow you perform exactly what you would anticipate. Everything that turns up as a notification on your smart phone (iPhone), will be displayed in your Watch. It is just like wearing a mini iPhone on your wrist.
There is a fascinating music app that can remotely handle your iPhone’s music or plays it back from the built-in storage space. There is also a remote camera application which transforms the little screen into a viewfinder. The most helpful and interesting features are the fitness-tracking functions, the heart-rate monitoring system and built-in sensors that allow you to map your daily activities effectively.
Battery Life: Apple has targeted for its forthcoming Apple Watch to keep going a whole day on a single battery charge. According to the apple’s official website,
“Apple Watch is so capable you’ll want to wear it all day long. So we made sure we gave it a battery that lasts all day, too.”
But based on the news website 9to5Mac, the actual number may fall short of apple’s target. According to this news site, Apple decided to make use of a comparatively powerful processor and high-quality display screen for the Apple Watch, which may contribute to significant power drain. The news site 9to5mac also claims that, in constant use, the battery will die after just four hours
Cons: Like many other Apple’s products, this smart watch is not very cheap; the price will start from $349, which is really a big amount compared to the other smart-watches in the market. For example, Sony smart watch costs only $199 and Samsung’s Galaxy gear watch costs $275.
Another drawback is the dependency on iPhone. To make the smart watch fully functional, you must have an iPhone.
And the capabilities of this smart-watch is also limited , in our view.
