On Tuesday, November 5, 2019, Andela in partnership with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) extended to the Northern region of Africa after launching its centre in Egypt.

ITIDA is a partnership platform between the private sector and the Egyptian Ministry of Communications. This public-private sector partnership aims to develop the Information Technology space in the North African country

This partnership sets to boost Egypt’s ICT projects as the country sets to attract both local and foreign investment from ICT services and export.

The call for senior developers has been around since July 2018 and speculations have it that, the launch might not hold but the official launch today has put an end to all speculations.

The decision to come into Egypt according to Andela’s co-founder, Jeremy Johnson was based on the giant strides made by the country’s ICT sector.

“Andela builds world-class engineering teams, and we are excited to be enhancing our talent pool as we expand into Egypt. We’ve been impressed by the incredible engineering talent we’ve seen so far across the country, and we’re excited to help raise the profile of Egypt’s tech ecosystem on the global stage,” Johnson stressed

Some months back, Andela announced the closure of its developer programme at the junior entry-level in Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda, with the exception of Rwanda.

Andela had mentioned that it is taking a new path in bringing on board senior developers while restructuring its talent pipeline to meet global demand

This isn’t far-fetched as the software-based company decided to hire only senior developers in the Northern African country to their programme is in line with the company’s new policy.

Across Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda, Andela has over 1000 software engineers. Just in September 2019, Andela let go of more than 400 software developers across Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.

Andela had announced that the changes were necessary has it was integrating a business model that would make room for senior developers only.
