Technology has, to a great extent, influenced the way we travel around the world. This is because it has made moving from one place to the other easier and safer. Some of the ways in which technology has impacted on modern transportation are stated below:

Increased Safety

Technology is credited with the increased safety that is seen in modern transportation. More than ever, vehicles are fitted with safety features that include airbags, reverse cameras, sensors, and others that are a product of advanced technology. This features on modern vehicles make commuters feel safer when on board.

Vehicle owners too feel safe parking their vehicles anywhere without having the fear of being stolen. This is because they can now fit their vehicles with trackers that can easily locate them even if they are stolen.

Ease of booking public transportation

Payment solutions have also been improved by technology. Passengers do not have to pay in cash at the boarding point all the time. In some more advanced countries, transport cards that are loaded and used like the ATM have been introduced to facilitate travel for the passengers. They do not need to carry cash about to pay for transportation anymore. All they need to do is to board the bus, for instance, and swipe their already loaded card to allow them passage into the bus.

You can also now book plane tickets from the comfort of your home or office.

Self-service vehicle fueling

Technology has also impacted on the fueling of vehicles. In the USA for instance, you can easily drive into a fuel station and serve yourself with fuel by selecting the monetary value for the quantity of fuel you want to purchase and swipe your ATM card for payment without any service attendant to serve you. I am not sure whether this is available in any petrol station in Nigeria yet, but, please, I will like to know if there is any via your comment below.

Easy navigation to your destination

As a result of what technology has to offer, drivers today can go to places that they have never been before without getting lost. This is as a result of the installation of navigation systems that enables drivers to navigate from their starting point to their final destination by charting the route they will go through.

Instant travel updates

Today, you get information online about your travel instantly. When you book for a plane ticket, you get constant updates from the airlines regarding your travel. This helps a lot in case of information about delays or cancelled flights.

Cost Saving

As a result of technology, car manufacturers are able to come up with fuel-efficient cars. Such cars reduce travel costs as they consume less fuel than their older counterparts.

Fast Trips

With some mobile applications such as Uber, you can now make a call for a taxi from wherever you are. All you have to do is to send a notification and the nearby taxi from the company will come pick you up. That is technology for you at work.

We take many things that gets done easily today for granted, but, think about how difficult getting them done a few years back were before technology changed everything! We, however, expect more technological improvement in the transportation sector as time goes on.
