National Information Technology Merit Awards, organized annually by the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) since 2009 to honour and reward excellence and outstanding contributions in Nigeria’s Information Technology Industry and Profession will hold in Lagos on November 14, 2014. The event honours individuals and organizations that have made giant strides and significant impact in expanding the frontiers of Information Technology in Nigeria. It promises to be a night of awards to celebrate the best of Nigerian Information Technology creativity and innovation that has fundamentally changed, and is still changing the Nigerian nation. The Nigerian nation has moved forward because of their contributions and for NCS, the umbrella body of all IT practitioners and organizations in Nigeria, it is honour well deserved. Nigeria, not just the IT community, owes them a huge debt of gratitude.
NITMA event reinforces the unique values NCS promotes by combining this prestigious long-standing awards ceremony with unparalleled networking opportunities in a highly celebratory environment that will include IT professionals, innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs, as well as policy and decision makers in the private and public sectors of the economy. The Awards are categorized and based on IT specialisation, NCS standards and global best practices. Among the categories of awards is the most prestigious IT Personality of the Year Award, which expectedly this is already generating immense interest within IT community as the most prestigious honour in the sector. IT Personality of the year Nominees for 2014 are: Austin Okere, CEO of Computer WareHouse Group, Aniekan Etiebet, Managing Director of Data Sciences, Collins Onuegbu, Managing Director of Signal Alliance and Segun Akano, Managing Director Upperlink limited. Members of NCS will vote online for their choice of IT Personality of the Year and as usual the winner will be unveiled at the NITMA event.
Also attracting serious attention are the Professional fellowships that will be conferred on deserving practitioners. Professional fellowship conferment is the highest recognition of professional excellence anyone can receive in IT practice in Nigeria. Special Recognition Awards will be given to individuals and organizations that have been most consistent over time in moving the IT industry and profession forward.
Outstanding individuals who have distinguished themselves in society will be honoured with Honorary Fellowship awards. Deserving individuals who have distinguished themselves with exceptional achievement and service that have accelerated IT development in Nigeria, to be honoured with Honorary Fellowships are: Dr. Toga Gayewea Mcintosh, Vice President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS) for his continuing and outstanding contribution to Information Technology development in Nigeria and the West Africa Region and Dr. Engr. Ibrahim Shehu Gusau, Chairman, House Committee on ICT on his immense support for ICT advocacy in providing oversight functions and legislative activities for the sector.
