3 Agtech startups have emerged winners of FarmCrew Innovation Fund 2020.
The innovative challenge was announced in October 2020 and saw 418 entries apply for the challenge.
FarmCrew is on a mission to nurture Agtech startups that can leverage technology solutions to the African continent food challenge on a large scale.
The organization which is a product of collective efforts of international team members in various institutions (MIT and ENPC Paris Tech) is supporting the startups in breaking through challenges of innovative growth, while getting them connected to valuable resources.
FarmCrew is also making investment opportunities available for agtech startups to ensure their sustainable growth.
The 3 startups are XY Analyitcs (South Africa), Nampya Farmers’ Market (Uganda) and Adereal Technologies (Nigeria)
XY Analyitcs
XY Analytics founded by Thulani Nyandeni and Kearabetswe Nyandeni is driven by the need to make a sustainable impact on food production on the African continent.
Since farmers play a significant role in a society’s survival, XY Analytics goal is in ensuring that farmers continue in this role by providing them with a technology-driven solution that allows them to execute resource optimization.
The South African based startup is working towards capturing the $350 million African cattle farm market value via the provision of satellite-enhanced pasture optimization while also using a herd management tool based on IoT.
XY Analytics launched Melusi Connect prior to the advent of COVID-19 and according to the founders, more than 30 farmers with 60,000 cows have been onboarded on their platform.
Nampya Farmers’ Market
The Ugandan based startup is bridging gaps in food security challenge via a digital platform.
This system offered by Nampya Farmers’ Market brings fairness, efficiency and transparency into Uganda’s agri-food marketplace.
The startup sources food and distributes it, thereby creating a reliable and fair market for agricultural retailers and producers.
Nampya Farmers Market sets to reduce market fragmentation and establish a well structured Ugandan food market.
The startup links rural smallholder farmers with food vendors, thereby offering a significant supply chain in the food market.
The startup wants to be the largest agri-food trace-ability hub in East Africa while offering affordable and safe food to Ugandans.
Adereal Technologies
This Nigerian based company leverages digital technology to addresse the gaps in the agri-food value chain through crowd-farming and exchange of agricultural produce.
