Last week, I received a call from a friend of mine who wanted to borrow money from me. When I asked for purpose of the loan, he informed me that he needed to deposit it because some guy from the NNPC Abuja contacted him and said they met a while ago and that there was an oil and gas consignment that he wanted my friend to handle but that he needed to part with some money so that the boss in Abuja could be settled and carried along.
I literally had to hit my friend to bring him back to his senses because he was bent on paying the money into the guy’s account. Well, after he relaxed, I had to take my time to educate him, explaining the various types of online scams and newer strategies being hatched every day.
