With the current increase of failure in cyber security systems and large-scale hacking, it is evident that your safety online is a task that should not be taken lightly. This, however, is often a task that one cannot easily implement. You, therefore, can at least reduce the risk of getting hacked by following some of these easy tips.

Secure browsing with HTTPS

urlIn the browser that you use, install an extension called HTTPS everywhere. This extension is compatible with most internet browsers, including Chrome, Firefox and Opera. It offers data encryption to those using a browser in which it is installed and enabled. With the data encryption offered, you are offered an additional layer of protection when you visit various websites.

Be up-to-date

uptodateMost software developers and companies are continually making improvements to their applications. These companies and developers routinely check for vulnerabilities that hackers potentially look for and exploit. The app developers and companies then make necessary adjustments to rectify these vulnerabilities. The adjustments are sent to you as updates and security patches. It may at times be inconvenient to keep downloading updates, but considering that you stand to lose more if you are hacked, this is a very important routine to endure.

Use Two-factor authentication

Most online services that offer supreme security to their users have a two factor authentication system. This is common in Facebook and Gmail. In this scheme once you have entered your PIN, a code is sent to your phone, and this has to be entered for you to be logged in. Using this system, someone may steal your password but unless they steal your phone as well, they will not be enabled to enter into your account.

Browse anonymously

Most people do not know this, but as you surf the net you are leaving behind a trail of digital footprints that hackers can pick up and use to hack into your account. You can, however, easily circumnavigate this by seeking the help of a professional. Alternatively, using the Tor Web browser effectively destroys your digital footprint when online. This free browser will bounce your online activity to computers all over the globe and, thus, effectively mask your identity.

Secure Your Emails

Other technique of thwarting hackers

Hackers may try to turn on your webcam even when it is off. To prevent them from succeeding in their plan, you can put a tape over your webcam when you are not using it.

Hackers may additionally try to listen to your conversation through your phone by activating the internal phone mic. To counter this, stow your phone away from earshot.

When sharing photo you may offer extra security for everyone in the photo by using apps such as ObscuraCam that blurs the faces of people whose identity you wish to protect.
